BSSH Mentor Scheme
The BSSH have provided free professional training in mentoring for established consultant hand surgeons. Links will subsequently be set up between the trained mentors and newly appointed BSSH surgeons who have requested a mentor. The programme will be run on a rolling basis, with feedback, refresher training and new training workshops as demand dictates.

Mentor Training Day 2021
A group of 22 proespective mentors attended the 2021 training day. We were pleased to have enticed an excellent group of candidate mentors. In the interest of and diversity transparency further information can be viewed below with regards to geographical variation, as well as gender, ethnicity and specialty split.
We have 15 mentee applicants for mentors so far and we plan to allocate mentors and mentees in the coming months. It is hoped that each mentee will be provided with a choice of two mentors, where possible depending on their requirements: a guided-match. The mentee will then be expected to contact each of the possible mentors for a 'chemistry' chat and decide which they would like to go with.
Our external mentoring adviser Louise Wembridge has kindly offered to write a mentee handbook to be distributed to the mentees in advance of the pairing to give those involved an idea of what to expect. Surveys will be shared with all involved in the scheme during the first six months to check on the temperature of the scheme and its progress. We then plan a debrief meeting early in 2022 to meet again as a group of mentors to discuss how the scheme is going and compare notes as well as discuss any challenges.
