Lion Hand Unit - May 2024 Update
A short update from Lion in Lilonwge.

The first photo is of the current BSSH LION team standing outside the LION Hospital in Lilongwe. From Right to Left: Tom Beech, Carlos Prada, Sean Walsh, Gary Masterton & Kate Owers.
They have just heard the news that the BSSH raised £1700 at the Society Dinner at the Queens Hotel in Leeds last month! This money was raised on the 'toss of a coin' at the dinner over about 10 minutes, playing 'Heads & Tails,' with the winner getting a free day's registration to the Belfast Meeting. The BSSH LION Project team is most grateful for this generous fundraising effort and extends their sincere thanks for this encouragement.
Second photo is from the Society Dinner at the Queens hotel in Leeds, following with BSSH LION Hand Team with Trainees at the LION Hospital, after a teaching session on local flaps in the hand and BSSH LION Hand Team taking part in a Polytrauma case (bilateral multiple open hand and wrist fractures, plus ulna nerve and multiple flexor and extensor tendon lacerations and bilateral open tibial fractures) at the LION Hospital.
The BSSH LION Hand Project has received expressions of interest from many surgeons and therapists. However, there is a vacancy on the Consultant rota from the 18th of November 2024 until the 1st of March 2025, and we are urgently seeking Consultant Volunteers to fill this gap for periods of 4-6 weeks. These periods will overlap for a week to ensure Consultants receive a handover. We would ask those who have already registered to commit to a date during this time and encourage others who are interested to come and join this exciting and inspiring project.
