BSSH Members are invited to apply for the following five bursaries/grants within the next month. Over £50,000 of funding is available for various projects involving education, research and travel. Take a look at the information below to find out more and apply.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - Patient Information Package
Deadline - 31st July
The BSSH has commissioned four unique awards to support the development of an information package for patients undergoing surgery for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The project is being run jointly by the Education & Training (E&T) and Communications Committees, the judging panel for which will comprise members from both committees and the general council. We are also collaborating with the British Association of Hand Therapists (BAHT).

Medical Student Elective Bursary
Deadline - 31st July
BSSH offers four annual bursaries of £1,000 to support medical student elective attachments in Hand Surgery. Successful applicants are required to write a short report, of the elective within two months of its completion and this will be displayed on the BSSH website to guide future students.

Education and Travel Bursary
Deadline - 31st July
These awards are for members who wish to travel to centres of Hand Surgery, nationally and internationally and can be used to cover travel and accommodation (costs for childcare, rent, mortgage and similar routine living costs will not be covered). These awards also cannot be used to cover course fees or travel expenses purely to attend a course. These awards comprise of individual grants of up to £5,000 and are to support the education and training of BSSH members.

Educational Grants
Deadline - 31st July
This grant is awarded for any activity that will support education and training in aspects relating to the management of patients with Hand Pathology. Examples could include the development of educational materials such as a Hand Trauma app or e-learning material, or running educational meetings, training meetings or symposia. Other relevant ideas will be considered.

Pump Priming Research
Deadline - 1st August
This scheme is intended principally to pump prime early studies and systematic reviews, that may lead to applications for larger funding from other organisations. The projects funded should pump prime research with the potential to benefit patients. The scheme will fund two small project grants of up to a maximum of £10,000. The aim of the scheme is to promote high quality research proposals, to support pump priming, proof of principle and feasibility studies or to increase the chances of applicants being successful in winning substantial external funding.
