BSSH Instructional Course - Soft tissue reconstruction, burns and infection
Friday 7 and Saturday 8 June 2024
The BSSH have been running Instructional Courses in hand surgery for 25 years. Throughout this time the courses have consistently provided world class teaching from an expert faculty, attracting delegates from the UK and Europe, from orthopaedic and plastic surgery backgrounds.
Over a 3-year period a series of 2-day courses running in June and February each year will cover the entire syllabus in hand surgery. Each course will explore a subject area in depth with innovative teaching combining lectures, small group tutorials and simulation.
The first course in series 9 will cover soft tissue reconstruction, burns and infection and will run on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th June 2024. The course will provide comprehensive learning for trainees and a valuable update for established hand surgery consultants, with the opportunity to discuss cases, concepts and techniques with faculty.
An exciting programme with lectures and tutorials will run over the Friday and Saturday, designed to accommodate the learning needs of hand surgeons from both orthopaedic and plastic surgery backgrounds. There will also be the chance to socialise with faculty and meet new friends from the hand surgery community in a welcome reception on the Friday evening.
The lectures (not the tutorials) will be recorded on both days and will be available on the on demand portal to watch post the events, more details below.

NovoSorb BTM (Biodegradable Temporising Matrix) is a unique synthetic dermal scaffold that provides an effective reconstructive option for a range of complex wounds. BTM is indicated for use in the management of wounds including partial and full thickness wounds, pressure ulcers, venous and diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds, trauma wounds, burns, and scar reconstruction.
This unique matrix is composed of a wound-facing biodegradable open cell foam, bonded to a non-biodegradable transparent sealing membrane.
BTM enables the generation of a vascularised neodermis, which provides a more robust foundation for wound reconstruction than grafting alone, limiting wound scarring and contracture.
