The working week is split between orthopaedic and plastic surgery with exposure to elective surgery and acute trauma. This is a major trauma centre with regular general hand and specialist clinics. The fellow is expected to feel comfortable managing upper limb peripheral nerve injuries, and most hand fractures by the end of the rotation.
There are weekly x-ray or occupational therapy meetings. Prior to COVID 19 there were monthly journal clubs. The fellow was expected to contribute to cadaveric teaching on the upper limb, and to visit supporting specialty clinics including neurophysiology. The fellow is welcome to visit adjacent units (Broomfield, Southend, Peterborough).
