SUMMARY:BSSH Research Prioritisation Project Consensus workshop

DESCRIPTION:We are running a one-day Consensus Workshop on 7th October 2024 in Nottingham to develop specific research questions on the areas of treatments for painful joints in the hand/wrist\, and the most effective non-surgical methods for treating early hand/finger arthritis.\n\n\nThis workshop aims to co-develop top research questions that can be proposed to NIHR and other funders for future commissioned funding calls for NIHR HTA trials and other multi-centre research studies. Research co-developed with stakeholders is more likely to be useful\, feasible\, relevant and impactful.\n\n\nThe workshop is open to all BSSH and BAHT members (with a limited number of places for senior trainees/fellows) and we encourage all who would like to contribute to please complete this short form.\n\n\nPlease come and have your say on the future direction of UK hand surgery research.\nIf you have any questions relating to this\, please contact us at sandeepdeshmukh84@gmail.com\n\nSign up here\n\nResearch prioritisation survey\n\nThe consensus workshop builds on our initial step in the project\, which was the BSSH research prioritisation survey. A total of 124 BSSH and BAHT members completed the survey (90 surgeons and 30 therapists). Survey respondents ranked the James Lind Alliance PSP Top 10 Research Uncertainties in terms of priority for future research\, with the top ones being:\n\n									Which hand/finger/thumb injuries would benefit from surgical intervention over hand therapy or no formal treatment\, considering both functional outcome and societal cost?\n\n									Regarding patient and cost benefits\, which interventions (for example movement preserving surgeries such as joint or cartilage replacement\, fusion operations permanently stiffening the joint and novel therapies) give the best result in the treatment of painful joints in the hand/wrist?\n\n									What are the most effective non-surgical methods for treating early arthritis in the hand and fingers?\n\n						 \n\nIf you would like to know more about the original 2017 BSSH James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership (JLA PSP) on Common Conditions of the Hand and Wrist\, the executive summary is available here.\n\nLet us know what questions you would like answered at the BSSH Research Prioritisation Project Consensus workshop - SURVEY HERE\n\nTake part in survey\n\n
